Insulated Glasses are Marvels of Science in your Home

The physical properties of glass never cease to amaze us. Borosilicate glass was once used to make medical equipment. It is a very strong but light glass which has peculiar temperature exchange properties. Insulated glasses for home use are made of this glass; regular glasses are made of soda-lime glass. They are much heavier and fragile. 

Insulated glasses are like normal glasses, they are transparent and they feel like glass too. The difference is that they have two layers of glass, the external one which you hold and the internal one which holds the liquid. In between them is a sealed layer of air that does the magic of keeping cold drinks cold and hot drink hot for a longer period of time than regular glasses. 

They are designed like regular glasses but they have two other excellent advantages over these. The first is that they do not produce condensation on the outside walls, no more dirty wet circles and stains on your beautiful mahogany tables. This also means no more dirty napkins or coasters to wash and keep on hand to protect your tables. When they are used for hot drinks you can hold them without worrying about the heat, it stays in the inner layer, right close to your drink where it should be. 

Insulated glasses are sold in many different shapes, sizes and forms, if there is a regular glass model you like it is very probable that you can find the same insulated glass model. They are a bit more expensive than regular glasses but they are definitely worth it. They are also dishwasher safe and microwave safe too. Insulated glasses are mouth-blown by expert glass artisans. After applying great amounts of heat to the borosilicate glass until it is white hot, the artisan blows and cuts it to the right size and shape. You will notice very slight differences in the height and maybe a touch in the width of your glasses, even when they are part of a set because they are not made with machines, they are handmade. 

They will not cloud like plastic insulated glasses do after a while, these will remain clear for many years. It is important not to crowd them together in your dishwasher because like diamonds they may scratch each other and damage the outside layer. They will still work but they will lose their looks if they are scratched.  

Insulated glasses are definitely a great buy for they will keep your cool drinks cold during the long summer days and they will also keep your chocolate warm during the cold winters. You will even get extra space in your kitchen covers when you try them and get rid of all the broken mugs you have and use to drink coffee and tea.
